Voysey Garden Introduces New Urbanism to Kiawah Island

New Neighborhood Designed to Foster Resident Connectivity

March 5, 2013 (Kiawah Island, SC) A new neighborhood, Voysey Garden, has debuted on Kiawah Island. Based on the New Urbanism movement, which promotes principles such as walkability and connectivity in neighborhoods, Voysey Garden is designed to be a walkable, pocket neighborhood that fosters a sense of community among its residents. The homes will be situated around a common garden with private gardens in the rear of each home.

Located within Kiawah’s Cassique existing residential community, Voysey Garden is now presenting new homesites for sale, featuring designs for low-impact homes with lagoon and garden views. Priced from $1,885,000 to $1,985,000, each home will measure approximately 2,600 square feet. The homesites include two floor plan options for two-story, single-family homes. Residents of Voysey Garden will have access to the members-only Kiawah Island Club, which includes two golf courses and clubhouses, recreational facilities, a spa, and beach club.

Kevin Flynn, owner and partner of Epic Development Group, is the developer of Voysey Garden. He and his partner, builder H.C. “Robby” Robinson, have teamed with architect Scott Merrill of Vero Beach, Florida, and landscape architect Sheila Wertimer of Charleston, South Carolina.

“Whereas Kiawah Island has been built mostly for the secondary and vacation home markets, we have realized there is a primary and heavily seasonal home market growing on the island,” Flynn said. “We intend for Voysey Garden to be one small example of providing a place for residents that would like to live within a more permanent, tight community. And so, we believe this product provides a wonderful opportunity to build a place that is right for Kiawah right now.”

The homes are designed to relate to each other and capitalize on the views from inside the homes to both the common and private gardens. The windows and entrances of the homes’ designs have been strategically placed to afford the owners views and access to the gardens, while maintaining their privacy. Instead of fronting on a street, each of the homes will face the common garden. The neighborhood will feature a sustained walkway through the middle of the block, beginning on one end with a small existing garden, and ending on the other side near a lagoon.
